Mug ShotMr. Studebaker is a co-founder of Studebaker & Brackett PC, which was established in 2008. Mr. Studebaker’s practice involves all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution in the United States and abroad, with particular emphasis on intellectual property issues relating to international companies. Having an understanding of both US and foreign patent laws, Mr. Studebaker is particularly suited to provide effective counseling of both foreign and domestic clients on matters relating to patent infringement and validity in the United States as well as issues relating to design patents, reissue applications, both ex parte and inter partes reexaminations and related matters. As a former Examiner with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Mr. Studebaker is able to provide clients with an Examiner’s perspective on issues relating to patent prosecution and patent procedures before the USPTO. Having technical knowledge in a variety of fields including automotive technology, consumer products, electromechanical devices, medical devices, optics and green technology, Mr. Studebaker can assist many of our clients in protecting their proprietary interests both here in the US and abroad.

Before co-founding Studebaker & Brackett PC, Mr. Studebaker was a partner with Nixon Peabody LLC (NP). While with NP, Mr. Studebaker was the managing partner of their Northern Virginia Intellectual Property office and a member of their governing committee where he worked closely with the managing partners of the firm and represented the interests of the firm’s Technology and Intellectual Property group (TIP). He also served as the leader of the International Team of TIP. Prior to their merger with NP, Mr. Studebaker was a co-managing partner of the intellectual property law firm of Sixbey, Friedman, Leedom & Ferguson, PC.

Mr. Studebaker is an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s IP Practice In Japan committee and frequently travels overseas delivering lectures relating to ongoing U.S. patent practice and procedures to both clients and various intellectual property organizations. Mr. Studebaker received his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Certificate in Technical Writing from The Pennsylvania State University. Mr. Studebaker is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Pennsylvania and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Intellectual Property Law Section), and the American Intellectual Property Law Association.
