Mug ShotMr. Hertzler’s practice focuses on strategically procuring and enforcing patent rights for his clients, both foreign and domestic, while developing and managing their intellectual property portfolios in accordance with business strategies and objectives. Mr. Hertzler has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting applications in the United States and abroad, and has successfully appealed many cases before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Mr. Hertzler’s technical expertise includes semiconductors, circuits, mobile communication systems, computer network technologies, and business methods and the software arts, and Mr. Hertzler has substantial experience in the areas of digital rights management, network security, mobile device security, data encryption, browser and navigational interface security, visual/graphical identification methods, and digital watermarking.

Before joining Studebaker & Brackett PC, Mr. Hertzler was a Senior Associate in the Intellectual Property Group of Reed Smith LLP. Prior to joining Reed Smith, Mr. Hertzler was an Associate in the Technology and Intellectual Property group (TIP) of Nixon Peabody LLP.

Mr. Hertzler received his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a Minor in Mathematical Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Hertzler is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
